So my wife started a 14G BioCube in mid-February. It went through the normal cycle and began the ugly algae phase. So we got a small clean up crew that included 2 rather large halloween hermits. They decimated all signs of hare algae with in 2 days. But there was still that bad brown diatoms and the cyano that occurs in new tanks. Well I've started using Reefers Best Salt in my 370G so the little 1G water changes are now done with this salt. WOW All signs of diatoms or Cyano stopped dead in there tracks. I'm not 100% sure it was the salt or just the fact that I'm not used to such a small tank cycle but the water is crystal clear and looking like a tank that has been running for a year.
We have put 5 Ricordia in the tank now and all are looking amazing.

Boy I'm not a good Blogger.
I've performed the Red bugs treatment with great success. I only did 1 treatment about 3 weeks ago and have seen no sign of any further Red Bugs
I've been fighting coral looses and tissue loss from a while now and racking my brain for why I'm faced with these losses. My first thought was high ALK swing. But I continued after correction to see corals struggle.
Finally I found my answer. My thermometer and heater I use for my water change water where defective. So I was adjusting my SG for water at 86 thinking it was 79.
This has been corrected and the corals are bouncing back.

As I wait to trap all the inverts I do not want to loose, my trip for work looms closer. I will now have to wait until after I return in order to treat the tank.
this holding pattern is killing me. Oh well. It'll happen

Well I finally picked up some interceptor for the treatment of Red Bugs.
The next step will be to pull all the inverts out of the system that I want to keep. this will include all snails, hermit crabs, and Shrimp. I need to see if my Abalone will also need to be pulled.
I'm also waiting for Reefer's Best salt to arrive in Canada as I plan on switching over to it. I may have to bit the bullet and just get a bucket of TMP to get the treatment going.
Wish me luck

Well I've finally got my ALK back to where I want it.
Readings have been stable for over a week. 8.8 dKH and CA @ 415
Red bugs have yet to be treated as I'm waiting for our Vet to get back from Holidays.
On a really bad note I've lost my Yellow Slimmer and not have STN from the tips of a couple more corals
